WELCOME TO THE NEW MISSION!

ACD Guatemala is a non-profit organization operating in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Our mission is to support underserved children and youth by providing educational support, discovery and skill development, sports and recreation opportunities in zone 10.

DISCOVER A NEW ZONE -Quetzaltenango (Xela) is located in an agricultural region 2,400 m above the sea level. Has a population of 150,000 of which 65 per cent are indigenous. Local lenguages are K’iche, Man and Spanish. Quetzaltenango is important for commerce but its periphery and rural areas present poverty levels are as high as 93.8 per cent reflecting high levels of malnutrition, illiteracy, lack of services, social exclusion, and loss of hope and dreams.

THE CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL DYNAMIC has brought a new phenomenon putting

Xela´s communities in risk: today Quetzaltenango is the first destination chosen by gangs to operate. Most gang members have migrated from Guatemala City occupying different areas. Zone 2, 5, 7, 9 and 10 have become the preferred areas to live and to invite children and young to join the criminal group.

THEREFORE, our work has required field research to respond to current community needs. In such a way, working for education is our priority but also to prevent crime and crime in the early age through multiple sports opportunities, recreation and Christian orientation for transformation, specifically in zone 10, not only because it is the one with the greatest extension, but also because it is an important corridor that connects the urban area with the rural area. It is a strategic point to develop a new model of development from childhood and adolescence from the treatment of new problems. That is why, in ACD Guatemala, we move to the rhythm of the community and work with them.

Our services are focused on child/youth protection as a Christian commitment and as a recognition of the power of God and His holy will for perfect plans and transformation in our lives lead by the Spirit. Join Transformation
